American Airlines AAdvantageAmerican Airlines AAdvantage loyalty program was introduced on May 1, 1981, as a way to reward people who flew frequently. This frequent flyer program awards members service upgrades, hotel stays, car rentals, tickets, and other various merchandise. The American Airlines AAdvantage program was the first in the world and currently the largest (50 million members and growing) loyalty program.
There are 4 different levels to the American Airlines AAdvantage loyalty program. AAdvantage which is the basic membership, AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, and AAdvantage Executive Platinum. AAdvantage status has no entry requirements and gives members priority status on waitlists. To qualify for the AAdvantage Gold status, the member would need to fly 30 qualifying segments, or earn 25,000 qualifying miles or points per calendar year. For Platinum status, the member would need to fly 60 qualifying segments, or earn 50,000 miles or points per calendar year. Finally, for Executive Platinum status, the member would need to fly 100 qualifying segments, or earn 100,000 miles or points per calendar year.
There are multiple places members can earn points or miles for the AAdvantage loyalty program. Anywhere from Airlines like American Eagle, Finnair, and Qantas to Hotels such as Best Western, Candlewood Suites and Hilton.
