Delta's frequent flyer program is called SkyMiles and is identified as one of the best travel loyalty programs for customers. This program was originally created in 1981 under a different name but has been known as SkyMiles since 1995.
Enrollment in this program is simple and can be done online. Once miles have been earned, they will not expire unless there has been no activity on the account for a period of 24 months. Miles can be used for ticket purchase, upgrades, or can be transferred to other users. Enrolled members can earn miles in a variety of ways. Miles can be earned through purchasing Delta or alliance partner flights, signing up for and using a Delta partner credit card, or purchasing products and/or services through a Delta partner. After earning 25,000 miles, a member will reach Medallion status. The SkyMiles Medallion program offers many benefits to Delta's most loyal customers. Silver Medallion status is earned at 25,000 miles, Gold status is earned at 50,000 miles, Platinum status is earned at 75,000 miles, and Diamond status is earned at 125,000 miles. All Medallion members receive waived baggage fees, priority check in and boarding. Additional benefits become available through the higher levels of Medallion status. |
